Warriorverary 4 The big one, the grandaddy of them all- Warriorverary- is finally in the books. It was a hellova show, with four titles on the line, and future title implications being fought up and down the card. And if thats not enough, the post show press conference went to shit before it could even get started.
Check out the full show below, then scroll on down for recaps, post match angles, and all the post show madness…
Red Masterson vs Koji Tanaka (Dragon Fire Japan)Recap:The show kicked off with a physical back and forth brawl featuring Dragon Fire’s own Koji Tanaka. The outsider matched Red shot for shot but the big Texan continues to impress, scoring the pin off of a thunderous lariat. After the match, Red made a belt motion, seemingly calling out the Dragon Fire champion...
Winner: Red Masterson
Rating: ****Tank McDaniel vs Felix Santana Sr (TIPWF)Recap:This match definitely had a sense of history, with two of wrestling’s most famous personalities squaring off for the first time ever. With both men well past their peak, this still seemed to be a matchup of quickness versus power- with Felix Sr avoiding the big shots from Tank and attempting to wear down the Warrior Pro owner. The strategy largely worked, countering into a flash pin that Tank couldn’t get out of and ending the match quicker than most fans in the stands were expecting.
After the match, an obviously frustrated Tank reluctantly shook hands with Santana before words were exchanged- it appeared Tank mouthed the words “lets run it back” but it was tough to tell from the press box...
Winner: Felix Santana Sr.
Rating: ***Markus Winter & TBD vs Triple J and Vic BaronRecap:Markus Winter’s surprise partner ended up being none other than previously thought injured Austin Baron. Besides being Vic Baron’s father, Austin also has had a long and bitter rivalry with Triple J dating back to their years in WfoW in the early 2000’s. The match was fairly evenly back and forth till Vic decided he was done, convincing Triple J and the Wrecking Crew to walk out, forcing the ref to eventually call for the bell and award Markus and Austin the win via DQ.
After the match both men were visibly confused over the match ending, and reports immediately started coming from the back that management was looking to book some sort of follow up match...
Winner: Markus Winter & Austin Baron (via DQ)
Rating: **Jimmy Hawkins vs John LoganRecap:Easily on the short list for match of the night, and perhaps even a match of the year candidate. John Logan looked fully recovered from his rib and knee injuries, controlling the ring and hitting his usual spots. But Jimmy Hawkins seems primed to take the leap to the next level, matching Logan big move for big move throughout the match. The ending saw a Logan’s Run cut off when Hawkins was able to get a hand on the ropes- before recovering and hitting his big elbow drop into a Hawk Splash to pin the former World Champion.
After the match, John Logan embraced Jimmy- as the two exchanged words before Logan raised Hawkin’s hand, leading the crowd in celebration of the victory.
Winner: Jimmy Hawkins
Rating: *****President Evil (STRUGGLE) vs Lefty McDanielRecap:In a promotion that has seen Doc Wyatt routinely do dick things to his opponent, this was still shocking. Immediately after the bell was rung, President Evil took two chairs, slipping on on Lefty’s knee and banging the other, creating a crunching sound that elicited audible groans from the crowd. Barely able to stand, Lefty refused to let the ref call for the DQ, limping through the match as he tried- one leg down- to fight off his opponents attacks.
As the match spilled outside Evil took a light tube to Lefty’s busted knee, which proved to be too much to overcome. The President of Warrior Pro was unable to get up- resulting in a disappointing count out win for President Evil (which also secured him a future World Title shot).
Winner: President Evil
Rating: *Dragon Fire Heavyweight Title: Kenta Aoki (c) vs Hideki Nomo Recap:Dragon Fire’s two top stars faced off in a rematch from almost a year ago in the
finals of the New Year’s Gold show that crowned the companies first champion in almost 20 years. This match wasn’t quite as good but was still a hellova match. Hideki Nomo pulled out all the stops but the story of the match was his inability to get off the Ace Valley Driver. Instead, it was the champion looking every bit the part- staying patient and slowly wearing down the challenger before nailing the Aoki Driver to solidify his second title defense.
After the match, Red Masterson came down to the ring and pointed at Aoki’s belt, seemingly putting himself in the mix as the next challenger for the title.
Winner: Kenta Aoki
Rating: ****Warrior Pro Women’s Title: Lizzy Jet (c) vs Dash YamadaRecap:There may not be a hotter wrestler in the world right now than Lizzy Jett. Heading into the year, Warrior Pro’s brand new women’s division sported a well known veteran who had made her name in Japan (Della Wyatt) a rising star who had closely feuded with said veteran (Dash Yamada) and a in house former champion (Fiona Walsh). Lizzy Jett has now defeated all three in succession, definitively establishing herself as the top woman in Warrior Pro. The match was a close one with Dash nearly winning with a Dash Driver- before Fiona tuned up the band and nearly superkicked Yamada’s head off for the successful title defense.
Winner: Lizzy Jett
Rating: *****Warrior Pro Tag Team Title: Gears of War (c) vs Grim ReapersRecap:One of the most underrated rivalries in the promotion, these two teams never fail to put on a close, physical match where everyone seems to leave the ring worse for wear. This was no different- the Reapers,
coming off a successful defense of their STRUGGLE belts, looked ready to become two time double champs… but GoW had different intentions. After a brutal back and forth match, Bobby Clash would nail his Clash of the Titans- dropping Tyson Heyward straight on his head for the KO pin fall.
After the match Heyward was able to get to the back under his own power, though word from the locker room was he did suffer a concussion...
Winner: Gears of War
Rating: ****Warrior Pro World Heavyweight Title: Doc Wyatt (c) vs Brick CaseyRecap:After months of seeing the Warrior Pro crowds start to warm to Doc Wyatt, it was eery hearing the full on boo’s reign down on the champ. This crowd was 100% behind Brick Casey from the start… which in retrospect is traditionally when Doc Wyatt operates at his best. The match started out with a lot of back and forth, even spilling out into the aisles- before Doc seemed to decide enough was enough. After avoiding an early chokeslam The Outlaw nailed a superman punch followed by a Black Gold cutter- ending the veteran big man’s cinderella G2 run at the title.
After the match, after briefly pretending to help Brick up, Doc went to work on Brick’s knee before getting chased off by fellow Mountain Man Logan Axelrod. Doc walked to the back, belt in hand laughing as the crowd continued to boo to end the show...
Winner: Doc Wyatt
Rating: ***Tank did hang around briefly to answer a few questions, here were the quick hitters…
