With the newly formed National Pro Wrestling Alliance crowning their first world champion, the focus shifts to who will be Verne Gagne’s first challenger. Sources say that first challenge will come from non other than Gagne’s own Midwest Wrestling Alliance. NPWA Chairman Roy Shire all but confirmed this, stating the champ himself would announce his next challenger, and given reports of Verne being spotted in St. Louis it seems highly likely that MWA will host the first defense. Around the rest of the country, the major territories seem primed to start crowning their own local champions. Northwest Wrestling Federation has already announced a rematch of Bruno Sammartino vs Hulk Hogan will headline their next Madison Square Garden show for the Northeast Heavyweight Championship. Atlantic Championship Wrestling has also announced a tournament to crown their own champion, and Mid South has followed suit as well. We don’t have confirmation from California, Texas, or Memphis- but none are advertising a world champion appearance, further indicating that the champ will be defending at a potential big venue show later this month at the Kiel Auditorium. It was a timely distraction from The Brain that allowed Bockwinkel to smash Bruiser into the turnbuckle and roll him up, giving him the first WORLD TITLE DEFENSE. Match Rating: ★★Sgt Slaughter vs. Larry ZbyszkoA super entertaining back and forth match that say Slaughter get the upper hand early on before Zbyszko came roaring back with a big comeback- nailing Slaughter with a piledriver for the win. Match Rating: ★★★The Crusher came out with his head heavily bandaged from taking a fireball from The Sheik last week. He said the doctor told him he almost lost his eye, and that he was lucky. Match Rating: DUDCurt Hennig vs Don KernodleSolid back and forth, with another gritty performance from Kernodle against one of the companies top starts. But in the end Hennig's speed was too much for Kernodle, and a Hennig Plex proved to be the match ender. Curt Hennig (1) defeated Don Kernodle (1) via HENNIG PLEX in 19 min
Match Rating: ★The Road Warriors are interviewed in the middle of the ring. When asked about the Hennig’s challenge, Hawk was clear that they don't run from anyone, so in two weeks- at Supercard Bash- they accept the challenge.Billy Robinson vs Larry ZbyszkoA wild marathon of a match. Both men worked mostly worked a mat based approach, with Zbyszko springing up and hitting Robinson with three straight piledrivers, only to have each one kicked out of. Dick the Bruiser vs Jake MillimanBruiser was in a foul mood for this one, taking it to Milliman right from the opening bell, making quick work of him with his patent Top Rope Knee Drop.
After the match, Bruiser got on the mic and said he didnt have an opponent for SUPERCARD BASH, but he heard Stan Hansen was going to be in town for the show. He yelled at a backstage Verne to make the match, slamming down the mic and leaving the ring... Dick the Bruiser (0) defeats Jake Milliman (1) via TOP ROPE KNEE DROP in 8 min
Match Rating: ★Cobra Corps vs The VachonsSlaughter and Kernodle's debut as a tag team did not go as planned, with The Vachons shaking off a couple of rough starts to pull off an impressive victory, isolating Slaughter from his corner and nailing two straight piledrivers for the pin. Match Rating: ★Billy Robinson vs Baron Von RaschkeA fantastic back and forth match as both men worked the mat and tried to submit the other, with the big German getting close a couple of times against the catch specialist. Match Rating: ★★★A mediated interview between champion and challenger take place in the middle of the ring. Verne appeals to the crowd, saying he will do what he has always done- roll up his sleeves and get to work to be a true fighting champion. Bockwinkel responded by dismissing the "low class humanoids" in the building, and stating that next week the world will get a true and worthy champion.
The segment ended with both men staring down the other in the middle of the ring, with Heenan trying to take a cheap shot at Gagne but the champ saw it coming and clocked The Brain- sending him flying out of the ring to the roar of the crowd...MAIN EVENT: Curt Hennig vs AnimalWith the Hennigs and Road Warriors set to face at SUPERCARD BASH, the main event looked to potentially be a preview of how that match might play out. If that ends up being the case, the Hennigs are in trouble. Motivated by Curt Henng's mouth, Animal took charge early and kept the smaller more agile Hennig off balance, opening up for a thunderous Power Slam that shocked the live audience- giving the Road Warriors a quick win and a huge mental edge heading into their match. **Animal (0) defeats Curt Hennig (1) via POWER SLAM in 8 min**

After weeks of buildup, we’re finally going to see the Bockwinkel vs Gagne rematch we’ve been waiting for. The ring announcer lists off the card for tonights show, with the crowd getting the loudest for the main event, and the Crusher vs Sheik Cage Match...Cobra Corps vs Larry Zbyszko & Baron Von RaschkeThis one never really got started, with the match spilling out of the ring early and Zbyszko and Baron Von Rachke immediately grabbing chairs and nailing Slaughter and Kernodle. Looked like that may have been the plan all along, with the heels laughing all the way to the locker room after the bell sounded. Cobra Corps (0,0) defeats Zbyszko & Raschke (0,0) via DQ in 6 min
DUDDick the Bruiser vs Stan HansenA good ol fashion slugfest with both men standing in the middle of the ring throwing haymakers. Bruiser almost got himself DQed with a chair shot, but the ref missed it while he exited the ring to get everyone back inside. Hansen kicked out of two knee drops before the third one proved too much. Dick the Bruiser (1) defeats Stan Hansen (5) via TOP ROPE KNEE DROP in 22 min
★★★The Hennigs vs The Road WarriorsThe Hennigs took early control but couldn't sustain it, and once the Road Warriors started gaining momentum there was nothing that was going to stop that train. After the match both teams started shoving each other and had to be separated by security. Animal (2,0) defeats Curt Hennig (1,2) via POWERSLAM in 18 min
★Cage Match: The Crusher vs The SheikA decidedly one sided whooping as Crusher dominated the Sheik- throwing him into the cage and busting him open to the roar of the crowd. At one point The Sheik even tried to re-injure Crusher with a fireball, but Crusher saw it and avoided. Maybe not the best match of the night but certainly the one the crowd got up for the most. The Crusher (0) defeats The Sheik (3) via CRUSHER BOLO in 12 min
★MAIN EVENT NPWA World Heavyweight Championship: Verne Gagne (c) vs Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby HeenanIn a match that left the audience shocked, Nick Bockwinkel became the new world champion but submitting Verne Gagne. Verne never really got off on the right foot from the beginning, and Bobby Heenan made sure he never recovered, even using a presumed new alliance with a Larry Zbyszko run in to prevent the champion from gaining any momentum. In the end, Bockwinkel was able to sink a figure four leglock deep in the middle of the ring, with Gagne having no choice but to submit or risk having his leg broken. Nick Bockwinkel (2) defeats Verne Gagne (5) via FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK in 28 min to become THE NEW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION
