Around the Territories While we’re on the cusp of Verne Gagne’s first World Title defense, lets take a moment to jump around and get caught up on what’s been happening in the world of professional wrestling…Atlantic Championship WrestlingHigh drama at the tournament finals in Atlantic Championship Wrestling where the promotions attempt to crown the first Atlantic Heavyweight champion almost ended in a double count out- with both Ric Flair and Jack Brisco brawling on the outside as the referee had no choice but to call the match. Owner Jim Crockett was quick to come out and restart the match- ensuring a champion was crowned. What resulted was an all time classic, with a bloody Flair claiming the gold. Meanwhile the emergence of the Four Horseman has made Dusty Rhode's life in the ACW very difficult. A tag match against the Wrecking Crew left him bloodied, and a post match brawl between himself and the Horseman may have sent Dusty to the hospital if not for a save from makeshift tag partner TA Magnum.Memphis Pro WrestlingMemphis Wrestling also crowned a new champion as Jackie Fargo defeated Tommy Rich for the Tennessee Heavyweight belt, despite Jimmy Hart's best efforts to interfere. After the matcb, a returning Jerry Lawler came out and started brawling with Rich, still looking for payback from Rich cheating him out of his shot at the World Title tournament. Meanwhile all signs seemed to point towards Austin Idol getting the first shot at Fargo's new championship. Mid South Championship WrestlingA blood feud between JYD and Ted DiBiase culminated in a chain match that saw both men beat the hell out of each other, with DiBiase eventually coming out on top using the chain itself. Afterward, Dibiase continued his attack on JYD until Dr Death Steve Williams rushed out to make the save. Elsewhere on the card, the Midnight Express followed up their debut win with Jim Cornette pleading to owner Bill Watts to give his clients a shot at the vacant tag team belts. Northeast Wrestling FederationWith rumors swirling that the Northeast might be seeing roster changes, their were several big names missing from shows this month. Both Randy Savage and Bob Backland seem set up to be in the rumored Northeast title picture, but sources inside the promotion continue to think more clarity will present itself in the coming weeks. Texas Outlaw Pro WrestlingThis Funks vs Von Erich's grudge feels like its just getting started. After costing Kerry his shot at the world title, Terry Funk absolutely dominated their Texas Deathmatch. Afterwards, with owner Fritz Von Erich tending to his son, Dory Funk Jr who entered the ring through the crowd and nailed Fritz with a lead pipe, busting the legend open. Meanwhile, the Mulligans and the Freebirds continue their fued with Terry Gordy scoring a huge win over Barry Windham. West Coast Pro WrestlingThe story here has been Pat Patterson and Ray Stevens turning on former friends and partners Pepper Gomez and Rocky Johnson, with expectations that a big tag match could be on the horizon for next month. Elsewhere, Freddie Blassie vs Roddy Piper was strongly hinted at for next month’s show, presumably to crown some version of the West Coast Championship. Japan Wrestling FederationAnd finally, with rumors swirling that the NPWA is headed overseas to Japan next month, the main event of JWF's Korakuen Hall show saw Antonio Inoki face off against Rikidozen with the winner expected to get the next world title shot. Inoki dominated most of the match, submitting Rikidozen with an Octopus Hold.
